Our Chocolate Hazelnut is built on a foundation of specialty grade single origin coffee — beans that score 80+ on the SCA scale, sourced from carefully selected lots where altitude, climate, and soil converge to produce something genuinely exceptional before flavoring ever enters the picture.
The reason the base bean matters: chocolate and hazelnut are both rich, complex flavor profiles. Applied to a low-quality base, they produce a flat, artificial cup where the flavoring overwhelms rather than integrates. Applied to a specialty grade base with its own natural sweetness, body, and depth, they produce a cup where all three elements — coffee, chocolate, hazelnut — work together in harmony. The result is indulgent without being one-dimensional, and satisfying in a way that a commodity-based flavored coffee simply cannot achieve.
The Craft
Every bag of Chocolate Hazelnut starts in our small-batch roaster, where precision is non-negotiable. We roast in limited quantities — never scaled beyond what we can control — to a smooth medium roast that preserves the bean's natural sweetness while developing the gentle caramelization that makes it the ideal canvas for a chocolate-hazelnut profile. The medium roast's own cocoa and nutty undertones are a natural complement to the flavoring — amplifying rather than competing.
Immediately after the roast, while the beans are still warm and their surface pores are fully open, we apply high-quality, natural chocolate and hazelnut flavoring oils directly to the bean. This isn't a coating — it's absorption. The warmth draws the flavor deep into the bean's structure, creating an integration that is aromatic, layered, and consistent from the first brew to the last scoop in the bag.
The result is a rich combination of chocolate decadence and toasted hazelnut warmth that feels like it belongs in the cup — because it does.
